The Anticipated Rush to Meet 2022 Compliance is Here

Since 2016, when Queensland Government announced changes to the legislation following a coronial inquest into a tragic Logan house fire, we have been educating property managers, landlords and home owners about their upcoming new requirements, set to impact them from as early as January 1, 2017.
Over the past five years, we have held property manager and landlord education events throughout Queensland, hosted numerous educational webinars, incorporated free onsite quoting into our service offering, created digital educational resources to be forwarded to landlords, and worked alongside the REIQ and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to prepare Queenslanders regarding the substantial and complex changes to the legislation.
We have also enhanced our Solutions Portal to allow clients to quickly identify the health of their rent roll with a dashboard dial outlining the number of properties currently complying with the new legislation. As the legislative changes require a substantial financial investment from landlords, we have worked hard to source and incorporate additional, cost-effective products into our range to assist our clients meet the new requirements as hassle-free as possible. Additonally, we have recently sourced a competitively priced solution to manage interconnected smoke alarms without needing to reach alarms on high ceilings. We launched the Emerald Alarms Controller in early April, which has proven to be very popular with our clients.
Whilst education of the market has been at the forefront of our endeavours, we have also been working tirelessly to ensure our workforce was at the required capacity to not only fully understand the detailed new requirements but able to upgrade the influx of work requests we expected to receive in 2021.
With less than 9 months until the 2022 deadline for Queensland rental properties and properties to be sold, we are now experiencing the anticipated last minute rush to comply as landlords fully comprehend the ramifications of non-compliance - including the inability to rent out their property come 2022 and potential fines. With less than 20% of the Queensland properties we manage currently meeting the 2022 requirements, we urge landlords and property managers to act sooner rather than later.
As an added motivtaor, upgrades to new Queensland legislation can be tax-deductible for landlords so we appreciate the importance of upgrading properties prior to the end of this financial year.
